Rethink “Supposed to”
Contrary to what we have been taught, there are NO “supposed to’s” in life. We have learned this as a result of what other people have wanted us to think and do for them. We are only just now learning to let go of the “shoulds” and things others believe we are supposed to do.
From a heart=based perspective, inspiration is intended to be the guiding principle. This is beautifully summed up by Abraham through Esther Hicks:
“There is not something you’re supposed to do. There’s not something that you should do. There is only that which you are inspired to do. And how do you get inspired except by the contrast? It’s the life experience that gives you the idea of the desire, and then as you focus upon the desire, the Energy flows.” Abraham-Hicks, excerpted from Philadelphia, PA on 4/14/98.
As you go through the next week, notice how much of life in general, and the holiday in particular, comes with duty and obligation. How often to you feel or think I have to or I should or I am supposed to? How often to you hear yourself or someone else saying something like this?
When you notice any such instance or form of this, take a deep breath and observe yourself. Then, ask yourself: What do I want to do? What do I have the energy for? What do I like? What do I need? Are you willing to allow yourself to want and need? Are you wiling to allow yourself to say “no” to things you do not want? Are you willing to allow yourself to say “yes” to things you do want? Are you willing to make time for you?
Self-care remains critical as we navigate the energies of the coming weeks. There’s never a better time to start observing and gently practicing taking steps as the active, conscious co-creator of our lives than now. Have at it! ;)
