The Power of Playfulness & Wonder

Thank you, DK!

Today, I am asked to share a reminder of playfulness and joy. These two baby hummingbirds are growing in the smallest of nests just outside my back door. Their attentive mother is making sure that they are well-fed and safe. They bring such delight and joy to my life.

If you look at the nest, you can clearly see the spider web that Red - mother hummingbird as I have nicknamed her due to the color on her lovely throat - has taken to use to create this majestic little treasure nest. There is also a tiny little feather and various forms of lichen and moss.

The babies are growing quickly and as you can see the nest is very full. The second baby’s beak is pointing upward in the back of this photo. We are treasuring each moment that we get to observe them before they leave the nest.

These beautiful birds are a reminder of being in motion and being able to move in all directions. They are great teachers of the practice of pivoting. They remind us of trust and of balance - of the abundance and prosperity that is also ours as a part of nature. They remind us of endurance. Most of all with their huge hearts, these beautiful beings remind us of our connection with our hearts and invite us to deepen into that connection each day.

That heart connection is how we bring forth our natural state of being and connection with joy. It is how we remember and allow ourselves to have wonder, to be awestruck, to be curious, and to venture forward to the next opportunity even if we do not know the who’s, where’s, what’s or how’s.

There is a beautiful quote associated with Hummingbird Spirit. It says: “Be quick to realize that the path is clear and the navigation set; the destination is the heart.” (The Shaman’s Guide to Power Animals, by Lori Morrison, p. 127).

Connect with Hummingbird Spirit today as you connect with your heart space. What do you notice about the energy Hummingbird Spirit is sharing with you?

Will you allow yourself to feel where the energy is magnetizing you?

As you go through your day, do you notice a new sense of color or perhaps flashes of light?

Do you notice a sense of wonder?

Will you allow yourself to feel the sense of playfulness and awe of your inner child(ren)?

We would love to hear of your experiences in the comments section below.

PS If you look closely at the photos, you will see that hummingbirds have feather eyelashes. I had no idea! What an amazing discovery! I am so looking forward to the other wonders that nature has to reveal to us.
